{Stairway Designs: Blending Utility and Design
Stairs play a vital role in linking different levels of a space, offering both practicality and aesthetic charm. Stairway designs are flexible, with a diverse variety of styles that cater to different practical and stylistic requirements. Whether you need a small design or a opulent centrepiece, there’s a stairway style for every purpose.
{The Contemporary Design of Floating Staircases
Floating stairs are characterised by their minimalist design, which makes the treads appear to float in mid-air. The floating appearance is achieved by securing the treads to a hidden support, making them appear weightless. This design is often used in sleek interiors to create a sense of openness. The absence of visible supports ensures that other design features, such as artwork, can stand out. While visually appealing, these stairs demand precise engineering to guarantee durability.
{The Beauty of Curved Stairs
Curved stairs are characterised by their flowing lines that create a elegant, arching motion. With a more gradual curve, these staircases are more accessible than Spiral designs. Curved stairs are a popular choice in spacious residences, classic buildings, or upscale hotels for their striking impact. Creating Curved stairs requires a great deal of skill and is often more costly than other styles. Despite the expense, Curved stairway designs create a breathtaking design highlight that enhances any interior.
{L-Shaped Staircases: Perfect for Angled Areas
An L-shaped stairway design includes a curve, often with a break connecting the two sections. This style is ideal for homes where space is limited, as the curve allows the stairway design to occupy a corner, optimising floor space. The platform also provides a natural break, making it simpler to climb and descend. This style is considered safer because the curve and platform provide added protection. These staircases are attractive, as the bend can be decorated with ornate railings or fixtures.
{U-Shaped Staircases: A Classic Design Element
The design of U-shaped stairway designs involves two flights of steps with a landing that reverses direction. U-shaped stairway designs are commonly used in large-scale homes or commercial environments. The U-shape provides a efficient footprint, making it a compact option despite its luxurious appearance. The landing in the midway point offers a useful resting spot and can be used as a aesthetic element, such as a small decorative nook. U-shaped stairs are a symbol of elegance and are often used in luxurious or opulent spaces.
{Spiral Staircases: A Stylish Style
A Spiral stair consists of stairs that spiral around a supporting column in a helical fashion. Spiral stairway designs are a great solution for tight areas, such as lofts, where space is at a premium. These stairs can be constructed from materials such as metal, offering numerous aesthetic options. While efficient, these stairs may be harder to climb for people with physical challenges or heavy items. Their one-of-a-kind look makes them a favoured option for enhancing the aesthetic appeal of a space.
Stairs: A Great Fusion of Form and Utility
As a combination of design and utility, stairway designs are a cornerstone of creative design. From efficient Spiral designs to grand Bifurcated styles, staircases offer endless possibilities to enhance any space. Whether in homes, workplaces, or commercial venues, stairs will always be an essential part of our structural landscape.

Newcastle Council tackles dangerous staircases
More than 3,000 homes and 57 blocks of flats with potentially dangerous staircases have been identified by Newcastle City Council.
The ‘Ranch’ style staircase design, which features horizontal guarding, is classified as a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
Concerns about the staircases were raised last year, with residents warning that children use them as ladders or try to climb between the horizontal boarding.
